Ever since I was little, I’ve always had a love for lots of different types of music. Because my mum and dad are the same, I grew up learning to love the music they loved, and dancing to the music they danced to. When we’d spending the weekends listening to music, generally we took turns listening to particular songs. My dad might have chosen a classic rock song, maybe putting a bit of Iron Maiden or Metallica on. My mum would probably choose something for me and her to jive to, or a bit of ELO. In all cases, there’d probably be a lot of Queen in the mix somewhere.
I never really lost my love for the favourites I had as a kid. In all honesty, my choice of music hasn’t changed at all since.
So, what am I listening to in 2015?
I’m going to start with a confession. I am obsessed with power ballads. In fact, one of my favourite albums is “The Very Best of Power Ballads”. Because there are so many ballads out there, and so many insanely amazing ballad singers, I’m not going to include any in my further list.
We both know I love power ballads… let’s not dwell on that any longer…
Electric Light Orchestra (ELO):
I actually got all watery eyed not long ago because an ELO tribute concert had sold out of tickets… Does that express how much I love them? I think so. They’re my absoloute favourites.
If there’s anyone who can get me up dancing, it’s him.
His voice and his story melt my heart.
My love for Beautiful South is practically drilled into my upbringing. (Thanks, Mam)
Guns ‘n Roses:
The beauties that produced one of my all-time favourite songs, plus many more. November Rain makes my hairs stand on end, every single time.
I went through a phase when I was about 12/13, and all I listened to was Aerosmith. Since then, my love only grew.
Who doesn’t love a bit of ABBA? “Mamma Mia” (the film) is one of my guilty pleasures for this exact reason…
On family car trips, you could pretty much bet anything that Queen would be played, windows down, singing at all the passers by… Bohemian Rhapsody was a particular favourite.
Bon Jovi’s music seems to be a running joke to a lot of people… I don’t really get it. He’s a proper deep routed favourite of mine!
I have a huge soft spot for swing. Glenn Miller feeds this love.
She’s an angel.
And everything on the Dreamboats and Petticoats album(s):
Everyone has those individual songs that they just can’t get enough off (even though they’re not by your favourite bands or singers), here are my absoloute favourites:
I love classic rock as much as power ballads as much as classical music. This was harder to compile than I originally thought! I think I got my favourites down to a set list, nice and compressed!
Are any of these your favourites too?
