If I Wasn’t Scared of Travelling…

I’m scared of planes.

I’m scared of boats.

I’m scared to cycle on roads.

I’m uncomfortable in fast vehicles.

Yeah, I’m a giant baby. Travelling isn’t something that’s high on my to-do list. Not out of want, but because the act of travelling to the holiday destination is likely to ruin the entire experience completely. I’m happy sticking to my British holidays – there are plenty of places around the UK that are beautiful, cultural, exciting, relaxing and until I’ve explored them all I can’t imagine a British holiday would bore me. Me and Matt love to explore, and even though we don’t drive, in the past couple of years we’ve visited some lovely places.

That doesn’t mean I’m not going to try! If you’ve had a read through my 101 Things in 1001 Days challenge, you’ll have noticed there are a couple of holidays abroad (Italy and Bruges) that I’m hoping to experience before the challenge is over!

So, combining my love of lists, organisation, exploring and natural beauty, here are my dream holiday destinations – in order of likeliness:

1. Italy:
Most likely simply because if I could travel anywhere in the world, it happens to be Italy. Lake Garda or Giardini Naxos – somewhere with sun, mountains, the sea and views. Rome or Venice – somewhere with enough history that I couldn’t possibly fit it all into a week holiday. I’m getting all excited just thinking about it!

Lake Garda

2. Bruges

3. France

South of France

4. Croatia

5. Germany

6. Iceland:
Starting to get unlikely now, but I did manage to fly to Tunisia (as horrifying as the flight was) and the distance from the UK to Iceland doesn’t seem unrealistically longer. I’d love to travel to see the northern lights – that’s a lifetime experience! Even more reasons… it sounds perfect – 28 reasons to visit Iceland.

7. New Zealand: Impossible…

New Zealand

8. Canada: More impossible…

9. Hawaii: Even more impossible…

You can go anywhere, all expenses paid. Where would you go?

  1. I would probably choose Antarctica. The endless white, Emperor penguins, and visiting a continent often ignored or forgotten really appeals to me. And if there is an opportunity I would like to watch movies like The Thing and Whiteout while I’m there.

    • Oooo good choice. I did consider it when I wrote my post but it seemed very unlikely for me to ever manage to travel there! Penguins in the wild would be lovely. I live near an aquarium that has penguins. They’re adorable.

  3. Great choices. I’ve never been to Europe so I’d love to take a long holiday travelling around the continent (pictures like the ones you posted always make me salivate :p). Particularly the UK, I’ve always wanted to go there. I want to do an exchange semester sometime in the next few years.

  4. Several of the places you’ve pictured above are on my ‘to visit’ list, including Iceland, New Zealand, Hawaii and Canada. But I agree with you that Britain never fails to please. There are so many wonderful sites on our islands and we visit several of them every year. I hope you overcome your fear of travelling and manage to get to Italy and Bruges.:)

  5. Aww. Well, I hope it goes well when you give it a try to travel to one of those places. I’d like to visit all the places you mentioned about as well as several places in the US like Colorado (I don’t know why but I’m obsessed with visiting there), Charleston, South Carolina, and New Orleans. I’d also like to visit Cuba and Brazil around Carnival time. Spain to run with the bulls though I probably won’t and Indonesia just to see it. Japan and China and India and Tahiti.

  8. There are many places in England, Scotland, and Ireland I’d like to go (and stay for a month — hell, a year). But more in terms of “dream destinations” (oh, for the want of a TARDIS), it would have to be New Zealand. Ever since seeing Lord of the Rings, I am hooked on that scenery! πŸ™‚
